Matthew Estrada (Microbiology) successfully defended his Master's thesis;  Tolerogenic and Anti-inflammatory Responses to Bacterial Surface Glycans and Glycoconjugates from the Mammalian Gut Microbiota. Matthew is the first graduate student to defend from the Wesener Lab. Congrats Matthew!!

Our first manuscript with a trainee from the lab has been published!! Really exciting project that culminated with Megan F. Hill learning all about carbohydrate biochemistry. Twitter description. The question: Can/how do bacteria in the gut respond to abiotic carbohydrate nutrients (i.e., no selective pressure)?

Our R00 grant entitled Human gut bacterial cell surface polysaccharides as a microbial nutrient source and target of immunoregulatory proteins shape gut microbiota structure and function has been funded by the NIH!

Megan performed the first successful PCR and analysis by agarose gel in the Wesener Lab! Big thank you to Prof. Artsimovitch and her lab for the help!
